Item Description

This printed card on heavy stock was mailed from Peoria, Illinois to Travis City, Michigan in 1928 franked by a 10-cent dark blue Spirit of Saint Louis Airplane Air Mail issue of 1927, Scott C10. A 'South Adams Street Station' slogan machine cancellation ties the stamp to the cover.

The picture side of the card features a photograph of Lindbergh and the American Legion logo, and reads:

"Commemorative of Col. Chas. A. Lindbergh's
Visit to Peoria, Illinois
Carrying a Special Consignment of Air Mail over his
old route, the Chicago - Peoria - Springfield -
St. Louis line, February 20 and 21, 1928. This card furnished by
Peoria Post No. 2
American Legion."

There is also a bold "WE" printed on the card which has been struck by a Chicago 'Air Mail Saves Time' pictorial slogan machine cancellation picturing a bi-plane.

The address side has a small printed oval photo of Lindbergh along with a large green horseshoe handstamped cachet that reads: "Lindbergh Again Flies the Air Mail / Chicago / St. Louis / Peoria, Ill. / 2-20-28."
'Edward J. Jacob, Printer, Peoria, Ill.' in small print at bottom left.

Vertical, mild crack at midline without any paper fibers broken as would a crease. Some corner bumping (see scans).
