Item Description

For sale is a rare and historically significant lot of five Norwegian King Oscar I Skilling stamps from the 1856-1857 issue. These early Norwegian classics were engraved with fine detail and printed in multiple shades, leading to distinct color variations that make them highly collectible.

Each stamp in this lot features a well-defined Circular Date Stamp (CDS) cancellation, adding authenticity and increasing its philatelic value. While some minor imperfections exist, the lot is an excellent study of color shifts and postal history from the Skilling period.

Stamps Included – With Color Variants:
? 4 Skilling (Blue) – Two Copies

One example in deep rich blue, with strong engraving details.
Another copy in a paler blue shade, showing noticeable color variation.
Both have full CDS cancellations, enhancing authenticity.
Condition: One has light discoloration, and the other has worn perforations.
? 8 Skilling (Gray) – Rare Shade

A distinctive grayish-lilac shade, an unusual variation.
Full radial CDS cancellation, adding strong postal character.
Condition: Some light surface rubbing, slightly affecting the portrait.
? 8 Skilling (Red) – Two Copies with Different Tones

One example in a soft pale red, likely a faded or under-inked print.
The other in deep carmine red, much bolder and richer.
Both with full CDS cancels, one from "KRA" (Kristiania/Oslo).
Condition: One has minor staining, the other has a horizontal crease.
