Item Description
New Zealand issued their first round $1 definitive for International Mail in 1997. Featured on this handcolored FDC is the cartoon character Kapai the Kiwi, created for a series of short cartoons by the Freelance Animators animation studio in Wellington, NZ, with whom we were working at the time!The cover is on an envelope handmade from tan stationery, and received a First Day of Issue pictorial cancel from Wanganui, NZ on 6 August 1997. About 10 of these were sent New Zealand for servicing. This is the first copy ever offered for sale!
