Flying boat Centurion left Sydney on 8 June 1939. It crashed and sank when alighting on the Hooghly River near Calcutta, India.
Franking washed off, leaving partial M[ERLIM]AU cancellation. This Type D4 cancellation is rated 250 Points by Proud. Scarce origin.
Two-line red cachet with error SALVAGED MAIL / EX CENTURIA. Normal cachet has correct spelling CENTURION.
Officially sealed label on reverse.
