I apologize to all philatelists out there. My dad is 85 years young and I am trying to help him "downsize" some of his stuff. Stamps appear to be "some of his stuff". What I know about stamps would probably fit on the stamp itself, but I am trying to look things up as I go. This item is a British Parcel Stamp, from the late 1800's or early 1900's, issued by the London & North Western Railway. The stamp is imperforate and very worn. It is red in color and is attached to paper. The denomination in the center of the stamp is "6D". The stamp is 3 cm x 4.4 cm and the serial number across the bottom is #U509305. The railway company was founded in 1846 and operated until 1922, when it was consolidated with other rail companies in Great Britain.
