Item Description
This cover was mailed locally in London in 1940, addressed (pre-printed) to the British Pavilion, New York World's Fair, c/o Department of Overseas Trade, franked by a 2-1/2d QV & KGVI issue, Scott 256, tied by a machine cancellation. The cancel is dated May 6th, so a First Day Cover.Content is a humorous typed note by a previous owner joking about how the cancel looks like one of the old squared circle markings, and how he should notify Stanley Gibbons as an April Fools prank.
The backflap is un-sealed and intact. Two small top edge tears; horizontal-ish top and bottom creases likely due to bulk of original contents. No backstamps.
The cover in the scan is the one you will receive; light horizontal line seen running across some images is scanner artifact.
Shipping always combined.
APS # 180251.
