Kiribati scott #641 & 642 stamps to brazil type 43 tape airmail cover 1999 kiribati scott #641 & 642 stamps to brazil type 43 tape airmail cover 1999 click images to enlarge description kiribati scott #641 & 642 stamps tied by indistinct march 9, 1999 cds sent on cacheted fdc first day cover however these stamps were issued 8/19/1994 and the souvenir sheet for this set issued in 1997 for hong kong so this is not a genuine fdc and perhpas was an available cover used for commercial mail. It was sent to brazil and has santos may 21, 1999 & june 10, 1999 handstamps on reverse. Invalid address and returned to sender with type 43 tape at bottom. The only reported use of the type 43 tape. As early as 1918 the royal mail had a class of seals that combined the repair function and provided information to the postal customer regarding the damaged or delayed item. These seals were infrequently used for their repair function as other seals and later tapes were more convenient and even the smallest post offices had a variety of handstamps to explain why a particular mail item was damaged or delayed. Twenty different types have been reported with a number of minor types also identified. These labels are still un use yet infrequently seen. Sent 1999, beautiful as is condition. (seals / tapes by definition were used to repair damaged mail caused by a wide variety of conditions and found in a wide range of condition.) this cover appeared in the exhibit of the late jim kotanchik's gold medal award winning exhibit, "official seals of great britain" the exhibit was probably last shown at westpex in 2009. It is possible that some of the information contained therein is no longer current. Jim kotanchik was a highly regarded expert in worldwide seals. Base shipping is $2.00 domestic and $3.00 international. Purchases at/over $49.95 must be insured. All items/orders selling for over $49.95 will be based upon final sale price.
