Item Description

The stamp in this listing is a stamp issued for use in the German colony of Kiautschou (Kiauchau) which was located in eastern China’s Shandong peninsula. This stamps are listed in Scott as Kiautschou #33 and is used with a light cancel from the Tsingtau post office, dated June 1906.

Kiautschou was established as a German colony / protectorate in 1897 on a 99-year lease, similar to what would later happen with the British and the New Territories of Hong Kong. It remained a German colony until the end of World War I, when Japan seized control of it. It would be returned to China in 1922.

Although Kiautschou stamps were first issued in German currency, i.e. mark and pfennig denominations, this was changed in 1905 to values expressed in Chinese dollars and cents. This remained the colonial currency until 1914.

Paypal, Money Orders, and Checks payable in the US are accepted. Credit cards accepted through paypal only. Checks must be drawn on a US bank, or I cannot cash them! (I can no longer accept Canadian Postal Money Orders, even those in US dollars-sorry!)

International: 14 days from the 7th day after the item is sent.
