Item Description
Greenland continued their series of stamps depicting the animals of the giant island nation in 1995, depicting the Polar Bear, the Wolverine, and the Musk Ox.This cover bears the three stamps in the set, tied to the cover by two nice strikes of the official Greenland pictorial First Day of Issue cancel from Tasiilaq on September 7, 1995. The cancel shows an Inuit pouch made from the skin of a Wolverine's head! Yikes!
The cachet is handcolored, showing the native Inuit names for these three mammals, and the reverse shows that this was an Artist's Proof from among the less than 10 covers sent to Greenland for servicing. •• The lower left corner of the reverse unintentionally picked up a bit of colored pigment from the artist's worktable.
