Item Description
Ireland (Éire), Scott #381 (Hibernian #C215), used(o), 1975, Celebrating the Cannonization of the Blessed Oliver Plunkett (1625-1681) to Sainthood; he was the Cahtolic Archbishop of Armagh and Catholic Primate of All Ireland; this at the time of Oliver Cromwell's Protestant Conquest of Ireland, with Pluckett being the last victim of the 'Popish Plot', a fictitious scheme attributed to the Pope to reconquer Ireland for Catholicism; following a bogus trial in London, Plunkett was found guilty of high treason in June 1681 "for promoting the Roman faith", and was condemned to death; he was executed in Tyburn, Hill in London on 1 July 1681 - hanged, drawn, and quartered for treason; he was beatified in 1920 and and canonized in 1975, thus becoming the first new Irish saint in almost seven hundred years; 15 pence, perforarted: 14x14½, recessed engraved, Scott (dull red), Hibernian (red brown), Scott 2019 catalog value: 25¢. Very slightly off-centered, light, classic, full circle, socked-on-the-nose cancellation with full mailing details on the top right portion of the stamp and over the main image {BRI CHUALANN, 18 XII, 1975}(mailed from Bray, a coastal town in the northern part of County Wicklow about 12 miles south of Dublin on the east coast of Ireland, on December 18th, 1975), sound back, penciled Scott identification and valuation marks on the back, good perforations, centering and mailing details cancel warrants a selling price premium; inventory listing code: MF. This is not a 'bait and switch' offer. The stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.45 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.63 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
