INDIA #38 STAMP ISLE OF WRIGHT TO WALES TYPE 2a & 2c BRITISH SEALS COVER 1900 INDIA #38 STAMP ISLE OF WRIGHT TO WALES TYPE 2a & 2c BRITISH SEALS COVER 1900 Click images to enlarge Description INDIA Scott #38 stamp tied by indistinct May 7, 1900 Llandrindod Wells (Wales) E62 duplex handstamp receiver on a very interesting cover that was originally posted in India to a local address, redirected twice within India and returned to the sender. The sender then placed and additional franking on top of the domestic franking and readdressed the cover to the Isle of Wright where it was redirected again to Llandrindod, Wales. During the final step in its journey it was damaged and repaired in Llanrindod with two type 2a seals and a type 2c seal. The type 2c seal is at the bottom left of the cover. One of two reported type 2c seals, both used in combination with a type 2a seal and the only reported use of any Victorian seal in Wales. (Queen Victoria Type 2a Crown 2 'Found Open and Officially Sealed.', Perf 11 3/4 Imprint 'M. -No. 11.' at UR, EKU 3/20/1883 // Type 2c The same as type 2 but missing 'Y' in 'OFFICIALLY') Sent 1900, beautiful as is condition. (Seals by definition were used to repair damaged mail caused by a wide variety of conditions and found in a wide range of condition.) This cover appeared in the exhibit of the late Jim Kotanchik's Gold Medal award winning exhibit, "Official Seals of Great Britain" The exhibit was probably last shown at Westpex in 2009. It is possible that some of the information contained therein is no longer current. Jim Kotanchik was a highly regarded expert in worldwide seals.
