Item Description
Iceland Post had a series that spanned several years in which they depicted 2 of Iceland's many fascinating fungi each year. Here is the second set of 2 in that series, featuring the Golden Chantarelle and the Shaggy Mane Inkcap!This handcolored cachet, on a light green handmade envelope, depicts the Puffin Cachets mascot as a chef, sampling these tasty woodland morsels!
This cover is one of only two that were also franked with the previous year's set of two mushroom stamps. The four singles on the cover all received nice strikes of the official pictorial First Day of Issue cancel from Reykjavík that depicts the two new species.
This cover was cancelled on February 5, 2000 . . and the reverse shows - along with the Puffin Cachets logo - that this was cover #1 of only 2 covers with this exact franking that were sent to Iceland for servicing!
