Back in 2009 Iceland issued this terrific mini-sheet celebrating 10 of the North Atlantic island's most memorable and creepy 'Creatures of Legend' from the past 300 years! All of these weird and scary beasts have been reportedly sighted many times over the centuries - usually emerging from the sea, prowling the beaches and shores, or spotted at sea by shocked fishermen!

This First Day of Issue 'cover' is on an 81/2 x 11 inch sheet, with the cancelled minisheet in the center, flanked by cartoonist Dave Bennett's interpretation of the strange creatures and a brief description of each. It will be mailed to you flat in a plastic sheet protector.

The official pictorial FDoI cancel of March 19, 2009 from Reykjavík shows an image of the long-clawed pawprint left behind in the sand by the Ghoul Cat!!

This FDC won the AFDCS Planty Award for best Foreign FDC of 2009. An applied label on the reverse shows that this is cover #30 of only 35 produced!
