Item Description
In September of 2018 Iceland celebrated the 100th anniversary of the start of mechanized farming in the country. An old Avery model tractor was imported to the island in 1918 and was used in potato farming in the Akranes area.There followed a potato explosion!
This Puffin Cachet shows our familiar puffin mascot piloting the old tractor across the fields, with the familiar Akranes mountain in the background. Designed in similar muted tones to those seen in the old photograph used on the stamp, the cachet adorns a cover bearing two nice strikes of the official First Day pictorial cancel used in Reykjavik on Sept. 13, 2018.
The reverse shows that this is cover #15 of only 15 made.
