Item Description

The item in this listing is a Hawaiian postage stamp listed in Scott as #30, and issued in 1886. The stamp is mint, hinged, and has a hinge remnant. The centering is quite good for the issue. CV$11.00 . Please see scan for details.

The history of the stamp is as follows:

This stamp shows the portrait of Princess Victoria Kamamalu, the Kuhina Nui (Prime Minister) of the Kingdom of Hawai`i under her brothers who were Kings Kamehameha IV and V. She died in 1866, several years before this design was first issued in 1871. (The 1871 “mauve” printing is listed in Scott as #30a, while the 1878 “violet” is listed in Scott as #30b, and the final “purple” shade of 1886 is Scott #30.)

The 1-cent value was issued primarily to pay printed matter rates, as well as to pay the “drop” letter rate, for letters mailed at and delivered by a single post office. 1-cent would also pay the postal card rate when such cards were issued, and 1-cent stamps could be used in combination with other stamps to pay all sorts of postal rates.

The 1886 issue was created primarily to have all Hawaiian stamps back to Scott #28 available for sale to collectors--although they were in use all the way up to the end of Hawaiian postal independence in June of 1900.

Payment Options:

Paypal, Money Orders, and Checks payable in the US are accepted. Credit cards accepted through paypal only. Checks must be drawn on a US bank, or I cannot cash them! (I can no longer accept Canadian Postal Money Orders, even those in US dollars-sorry!)
