Item Description
The giant annual Scandinavian stamp exhibition known as NORDIA was held in Iceland in 1996. Iceland Post issued a handsome souvenir sheet saluting NORDIA and the world's most northern philatelists!The souvenir sheet depicts the Godafoss waterfall on the Skalfandafljot River, broken into 3 separate stamps, one each paying the Inland Rate, the European Rate, and the 'Rest of the World' rate.
The handcolored cachet depicts a Puffin going over the falls in a barrel, an activity he must have picked up on a visit to Niagara Falls!
The souvenir sheet received two clear strikes of the official pictorial First Day of Issue postmark which carries a line drawing of the falls. The reverse shows that this is cover #4 of only 10 serviced.
