Item Description
These two Icelandic Christmas stamps, designed by two winning children in a national contest, depict a pair of purple-robed angels on one stamp, and a rather friendly Yule-Cat on the other. The text explains the contest and names the winners.The Yule-Cat is a fearsome and huge creature of Icelandic legend, on nightly prowl in December to frighten naughty children, . . but as depicted here, he seems quite benign!
This Puffin Cachet features the Yule-Cat in his more friendly persona, sharing holiday cheer with a tiny purple-robed puffin-angel!
The cachet is handcolored, and the two stamps are cancelled with the official FDoI pictorial cancel from Reykjavík from 5 November, 1998 that depicts Father Christmas. The back reveals this to be cover #9 of only 13 made!
