Item Description
The folk tale of Brúsajøkil's Lay is well-known in the Faroes Islands - the story of a brave explorer who makes his way past a Giant Cat to confront its owner . . and triumph over him.This handcolored cachet depicts Brúsajøkil standing up bravely to the cat, as is pictured on one of the 4 singles that adorn the cover. There are two nice strikes of the pictorial First day of Issue cancel that shows the Giant.
The reverse carries the Puffin Cachets logo and shows that this particular cover was an Artist's Proof, to experiment with the coloring, and is one of probably only 10 covers sent to the Faroes for servicing.
