Item Description
The Faroes Islands are a major stop-over point for European migrating birds . . but they also have a good number of permanent resident species. These were featured on a series of three "Sedentary Birds" issues in the late 1990s, each set of two depicting common island inhabitants.In 1999 the set featured the House Sparrow and the Common Wren . . and this handcolored cachet depicts both species hanging out at a birdhouse painted to evoke the Faroese national flag!
This FDC received two clear strikes of the official pictorial First Day of Issue postmark which includes a line drawing of a wren in flight. The reverse shows that this is cover #1 of only 8 serviced.
