Item Description
Greenland Post's Christmas stamps for 1997 featured a motif depicting sled dogs and sleds . . . so that's what the handcolored cachet shows . . a sled dog sitting atop a sled with the addition of a harnessed Greenlandic Polar Bear!This blue, handmade envelope bears the two 1197 Christmas stamps, as well as Greenland's 1992 sole Christmas stamp, by the same artist. All three received the official pictorial First Day of Issue cancel from Tasiilaq (where the Postal Headquarters are situated) that depicts a lantern like the one pictured in the two new stamps . . and also in the cachet!
This cover was cancelled on November 6, 1997 . . and the reverse shows - along with the Puffin Cachets logo - that this was cover was colored as an Artist's Proof after being serviced in Greenland and returned to the US!
