Great Britain: "1d Violet", the so-called "Mercury essay"; OG, beautiful corner margin example in mount on fragment of page, many people believe this stamp to be an "essay" but in reality it was more of an unofficial contest entry, the great thing about this example aside from its corner margin status, is that it comes with a 1987 clipping about the "stamp," which was published in Stamp Collector magazine, it explains the happenstance of this issue, the clipping is folded and not all of it shown, the stamp itself has never been hinged but has some missing gum, which may or may not be natural, VF and interesting
