Item Description

This listing is for a single, used definitive stamps issued for use in the colony of German Southwest Africa (Deutsch Sudwest Afrika) in 1906, and shows the standard image used on colonial German stamps in the early 20th century&mdashnamely the Kaiser’s Yacht “Hohenzollern.”

The stamp is listed in Scott as #28, and has a cancel applied at the town of Okahandha, which is now a city of 13,000 residents in central Namibia. The cancel date is 19 August 1912.

German Southwest Africa was a colony of Imperial Germany from 1884 until Germany lost all her colonies as part of the peace settlement that ended World War I. The neighbouring British colony of South Africa took over the colony, running it as “Southwest Africa” until independence in 1990. The former colony is now the Republic of Namibia.

Return Policy:

US Bidders: 14 days from the 3rd day after the item is sent.

International: 14 days from the 7th day after the item is sent.
