Item Description

The stamp in this listing is a stamp issued for use in the German Post Offices in Morocco. This stamp is a part of the 1900 issue of the German Offices in Morocco definitive series, which has the word “Morrocco” and a new value in Spanish currency overprinted across the bottom of the stamp. This one is listed in Scott as #12, and is on piece with a complete cancel from the Larache post office dated 23 April 1902.

ARGe CV €10 for the cancel in addition to Scott CV $6.00 for the stamp.

Morocco was one of several nations&mdashothers being China, Turkey, and Zanzibar&mdashwhich had foreign nations operate postal services on its’ soil. Other nations which operated postal services in Morrocco specifically included France, Spain, and Great Britain.

German extra-territorial post offices in the French zone of Morocco closed in 1914, once France and Germany declared war on each other. In the Spanish zone of Morrocco, the German post offices remained open until June 1919 owing to Spain’s neutrality in World War I. All German overseas post offices closed all closed in the aftermath of Germany’s defeat in World War I.
