Item Description

This listing is for a single, used postal card issued for use in the German colony of German East Africa. It has an imprinted stamp similar in design to Scott #23 and Scott #32. The imprinted stamp has a face value of 4 heller, which paid the domestic card rate for cards sent within GEA or between points within the German colonial Empire. This stamp bears a light cancel applied at the Iringa post office, date uncertain, sent commercially to a firm in Erfurt, Germany. The message on the reverse, a request for a catalogue from the company in question, is datelined Iringa, 30 January 1910.

German East Africa was a colony of Germany until Germany lost all her colonies as part of the peace settlement that ended World War I. Britain took over the majority of the colony, which would become known as Tanganyika (now the mainland portion of Tanzania). Belgium took over what would later become Rwanda and Burundi, and Portugal also incorporated a small piece of the former DOA into Mozambique.

Paypal, Money Orders, and Checks payable in the US are accepted. Credit cards accepted through paypal only. Checks must be drawn on a US bank, or I cannot cash them! (I can no longer accept Canadian Postal Money Orders, even those in US dollars-sorry!)

Return Policy:

US Bidders: 14 days from the 3rd day after the item is sent.

International: 14 days from the 7th day after the item is sent.
