Item Description

This listing is for a mint booklet pane of six (6) examples of Scott #32, the 4 heller definitive stamp issued for use in the colony of German East Africa (Deutsch Ostafrika) in 1913. It shows the standard image used on colonial German stamps in the early 20th century--namely the Kaiser’s Yacht “Hohenzollern.”

Five of the stamps are mint, never hinged. The sixth stamp, at lower right, was previously hinged.

This booklet pane is not listed in Scott, but is listed in Michel as booklet pane 12B. The suffix "B" indicates a booklet pane where the central line of perforations does NOT go through the selvage at left. It should be noted that the straight edge at top, and the shorter perfs at right, are typical for this issue.

This booklet pane is from the "C" booklet, so named because the letter "C" was printed on the booklet front cover. (Other booklets with different panes were issued as "booklet A" and "Booklet B.") This booklet was printed and issued in 1913, but was not sold or issued in German East Africa. It was only issued at the philatelic counter in Berlin until the end of the First World War.

German East Africa was a colony of Germany until Germany lost all her colonies as part of the peace settlement that ended World War I. Britain took over the majority of the colony, which would become known as Tanganyika (now the mainland portion of Tanzania). Belgium took over what would later become Rwanda and Burundi, and Portugal also incorporated a small piece of the former DOA into Mozambique.

Paypal, Money Orders, and Checks payable in the US are accepted. Credit cards accepted through paypal only. Checks must be drawn on a US bank, or I cannot cash them! (I can no longer accept Canadian Postal Money Orders, even those in US dollars-sorry!)
