Item Description

The item in this listing is a single postage stamp issued for use in the German crown colony of Kamerun in 1919, and is listed in Scott as #23. As is typical for German colonial issues, the stamp shows the Kaiser’s yacht, SMS “Hohenzollern”.

This stamp is mint, very lightly hinged. 2020 CV $3.00

Following its' takeover during the First World War, Kamerun was partitioned into French and British zones of occupation. The majority of Kamerun became part of the new French colonial mandate of Cameroun, or else incorporated into French Equitorial Africa. The British zone was maintained as a separate mandate, the northern part of which was eventually attached to Nigeria and gained independence as part of that country. Southern Cameroons and the French Cameroun mandate gained independence as the modern nation of Cameroon in 1961.
