The astronauts : Virgil ( Gus ) Grissom and John Young rode the "Mollly Brown" space capsule around the earth for 4 hours and 53 minutes before splashing down in the Atlantic Ocean where the astronauts and space capsule were picked up by the USS Intrepid ( CVS-11). This cover has a R/S ship cachet and machine cancelled on board the USNS Robert A.Owens, (DD-827) one of the recovery ships on 03/31/1965 - the day of recovery. This cover is label addressed and franked with a USA stamp .Due to a U.S.N.S Post Office Dept. mix-up in assigning, this cover, which was originally intended for the GT-3 cancellation onboard this spacecraft recovery ship, Due to a U.S.N.S Post Office Dept. mix-up in mailing, this cover, which was originally intended for (GT-3) 03/23/1965 cancellation onboard the spacecraft recovery ship, destroyer Robert A.
