Item Description
In 1994, two of the FAROES' "Most Wanted Fish', were the ORANGE ROUGHY and the FALSE BOARFISH. Standard fare like COD and HERRING were becoming depleted and Faroes fishermen and Faroes chefs were eager to find a new source of seafood!A set of four stamps with unfamiliar fish was issued in hopes of getting the populace accustomed to something just a little bit different for their palates!
Here's a handcolored cachet on a brown handmade envelope showing two of the likely 'suspects'. The cover received two of the official pictorial First Day of Issue cancellations (showing an Orange Roughy) from Tórshavn in the Faroes.
The reverse carries the PUFFIN CACHETS logo, and the designation that this was an 'Artist Proof' made before going into production.
Today, ORANGE ROUGHY is a widely-enjoyed menu item . . . FALSE BOARFISH, not so much!
