Item Description
The Faroes Islands issued a pair of stamps in 1998 depicting two species that dwell on the rocky North Sea islands year-round and do not migrate -- The Starling and The Blackbird.Here they are shown making their nests on opposite horns of a typical Faroes ram, in a handcolored cachet. The stamps received a nice clean strike of the First Day of Issue postmark from the capital of Tórshavn n February 23, 1998.
The cover is on an envelope handmade from heavy gray/tan stationery, and the reverse bears the Puffin Cachets logo and shows that this is cover #1 of only 6 covers sent to the Faroes for servicing!
