Mr. Depew collected only the most interesting items and unusual showpieces from these two focus areas of specialty. While he collected both used and mint stamps, he especially treasured quality used stamps. Typically, quality used examples of early stamps are quite scarce because of their condition after usage in the mails, being removed from the cover without damage and then collected, sold or traded over many decades.
