POST CSA Politician in TEXAS: US cover; addressed Col B. H. Epperson in Clarksville Texas, (US Scott #65, pinkish shade), STAR CANCEL, tied by matching Elizabeth NJ CDS, ca 1867, small flaws to stamp and cover, tears to top of cover, no flap, still very interesting, mailed to volatile post-war Clarksville Texas, Col Epperson (see below) was very active in politics and had been denied a seat in Congress as he would not take the oath, pencil on reverse, Fine-VF and scarce! 

Benjamin Holland Epperson (1821-1878) was a prominent Texas politician. He settled in Clarksville and practiced law. Though the title of Colonel was honorary, he was in the Second Texas Legislature and ran for governor. By the onset of the war he was a very wealthy man, though he was against (as was Sam Houston) leaving the Union. When Texas DID secede, he supported the Confederate cause. After the war he was one of five Texas delegates to the Congress and people of the United States who did not take the Oath of Allegiance and was, therefore, denied a seat in Congress. He continued in politics and moved to Jefferson in 1871. 

I have seen at least two CSA covers to this exact address. Most unusual.
