( i think the registry label was removed and re-attached over the seals. - there is a somewhat indistinct registered backstamp which looks to read may 4, 1918) the cover was posted to a soldier in the royal field artillery in the mesopotamian expeditionary force. (h. C. Potter 2nd batttery 13th brigade r. F. A. Ex force mesopotamia) undeliverable there with a manuscript ''western front' in purple, the cover was redirected to the mpo (s. 12 apo number) at harfleur (near havre) in france where also undeliverable. The letter was opened by the mpo to determine a return address and closed with two type 7 seals on december 17, 1918 with mpo handstamp. The round trip took over 6 months. Two type 7 seals reported. An extradorinary usage and the only mpo example reported. (king george v type 7 crown 1 'found open (or torn) and officially secured.', perf 12, inscription 'pmrs. -480./(late m. -no. 75).' eku 10/24/1918) sent april 1918, beautiful as is condition. (seals by definition were used to repair damaged mail caused by a wide variety of conditions and found in a wide range of condition.) this cover appeared in the exhibit of the late jim kotanchik's gold medal award winning exhibit, "official seals of great britain" the exhibit was probably last shown at westpex in 2009. It is possible that some of the information contained therein is no longer current. Jim kotanchik was a highly regarded expert in worldwide seals.
