ENGLAND #89 STAMP TYPE 2a & 2b BRITISH SEALS LOCAL COVER 1900 ENGLAND #89 STAMP TYPE 2a & 2b BRITISH SEALS LOCAL COVER 1900 Click images to enlarge Description GREAT BRITAIN Scott #89 stamp tied by indistinct and covered 1900 cds (October 12, 1900 London backstamp) on local cover damaged in transit with manuscript 'Came to hand torn apart' and repaired with a pair of type 2b seals at bottom left and four type 2a seals at the bottom and right. The only reported multiple of the type 2b seals and one of three combination usages reported. (Queen Victoria Type 2a Crown 2 'Found Open and Officially Sealed.', Perf 11 3/4 Imprint 'M. -No. 11.' at UR, EKU 5/16/1890 // Type 2b Same as type 2a but no period after 'SEALED' eku 11/13/1892) Sent 1900, beautiful as is condition. (Seals by definition were used to repair damaged mail caused by a wide variety of conditions and found in a wide range of condition.) This cover appeared in the exhibit of the late Jim Kotanchik's Gold Medal award winning exhibit, "Official Seals of Great Britain" The exhibit was probably last shown at Westpex in 2009. It is possible that some of the information contained therein is no longer current. Jim Kotanchik was a highly regarded expert in worldwide seals.
