This lot contains 7 different mint never hinged Eaton’s Fine Letter Papers stamps. IN 1938 EATON PAPER COMPANY CONTRACTED THE AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY TO ENGRAVE PLATES AND MAKE A SERIES OF 10 LABEL STAMPS WHICH WERE TO INCLUDED IN THEIR PAPER OFFERINGS FOR 1939. THE ENGRAVED SCENES DEPICT VIEWS OF NEW YORK CITY AND ADVERTISING FOR EATON'S FINE LETTER PAPER. THIS OFFERING WAS TO BE RELEASED IN 1939, THE YEAR THE WORLD'S FAIR OPENED. UNFORTUNATELY THESE LABELS LOOKED SO MUCH LIKE STAMPS THAT PEOPLE WERE PUTTING THEM ON LETTERS. THE POSTAL DEPARTMENT GOT INVOLVED AND EATON WAS TOLD TO DISCONTINUE THE STAMPS. AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY DESTROYED THE PRINTING PLATES. ONLY A LIMITED NUMBER OF THESE STAMPS ARE AVAILABLE.
