Item Description

This is the 1868 "F" Grilled George Washington 10-cent Reconstruction Era issue, which is now for sale. The stamp is one of the more popular 19th Century designs and shows strong grilling across the face. The grill was verified as an "F" style. Grilling was an early means of stopping people from erasing and reusing stamps. The grill actually breaks the fibers of the paper (not enough to create a hole -- though trying to erase over it will make that hole). This is a beautiful stamp in all regards.

Please review the images for clarity, color, condition, cancellation, and centering. And just to be clear, the small paper fragment seen in the reverse upper corner is no longer there.
