Item Description

The United States had not yet officially entered World War II in April 1941, when this Souix Falls candy store cover was mailed to occiupied Greece. The April 21, 1941, cover was posted to Greece VIA AIR MAIL, yet after being censored by the U.S. (the faded purple stamp survived just above the German resealing tape and similar marking of the era) and in Europe by the Germans the covered was stamp RETURN TO SENDER SERVICE SUSPENDED.  The New York, N.Y., reciving postmark dated Nov. 29, 1941, indicates the cover had a very delayed travel.

There is a Biblical reference penciled on the reverse citing II Timothy 3:16, which clarifies the origina of all scripture, and a couple of verses from Chapter 4 as well. The verses must have been a comfort to the writer as the U.S. moved nearer to war.

 For cover collectors of the era, this is a very nice item with an exceptionally well center Scott #C24 30-cent winged globe paying the inadvertant rounditrip. Please study the images for clarity, color, condition, cancel, and centering.
