Item Description

This is the 1935 cross gutter block of four imperforate blocks of stamps for sale. Although issued without gum, the stamps are still never hinged. The block is truly Post Office fresh. This block is the result of Postmaster James Farley's order for a special printing following an uproar by collectors over his gift of imperforate sheets to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Interestingly enough, the U.S. Postal Department issued the stamps without gum, yet allowed collectors to buy from local post offices and then send them in for gumming if desired. The color and margins on this stamp block are very nice. Please study the image for clarity, color, condition, and centering.
