Item Description

These the 1935 cross gutter blocks of four Byrd special printing imperforate stamps for sale. There are five initially for this listing and each is nearly identical. Although issued without gum, the stamps are still never hinged. The blocks are truly Post Office fresh. This block is the result of Postmaster James Farley's order for a special printing following an uproar of collectors over his gift of imperforate sheets to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Interestingly enough, the U.S. Postal Department re-issued the stamps without gum, yet allowed collectors to buy from local post offices and then send them in for gumming if desired. The color and margins on this stamp block are very nice. Please study the images for clarity, color, condition, and centering.
