Item Description

These are the inappropriately pre-cancelled 1937 Army-Navy commemoratives now for sale. The original collector received these as a gift of sorts from a fellow philatelist, who apparently knew immediately he had acquired some errors at the local Post Office (see the note). Both stamps are mint, never hinged original gum with a Taylorville, Illinois, pre-cancellation strike. Pre-cancellation is usually exclusive to definitive stamps -- amazing what some of the older collectors caught. Please study the images for clarity, color, condition, and centering.

Faults/Flaws: None, though the #788 does have a partial fingerprint and traces of rust from a paperclip on #794.
