Item Description

This is the classic 3c Post Office stamp for sale with a near complete fancy circular strike surrounding a 5-point star identified by Herbert C. Skinner and Amos Eno as CR-C 23 out of the small town Post Office at Farmington, Illinois. According to Skinner and Eno, this particular cancellation was in use from 1845 to 1869.

The stamp has been repaired or at least an attempt was made to repair the stamp at some point in its philatelic life, but the stamp is not so collectible as the fancy cancel which almost socks Washington on the nose. Please study the images for clarity, color, condition, perforations, cancellation, and centering.
