Almost every U.S. collector knows of or has heard about the president who collected stamps to relax, but not many have an idea as to what Franklin D. Roosevelt actually collected and had at the time of his passing in 1945. while it is impossible to get in a bid today, it is very easy to see what the late president collected.
President Roosevelt's collection was auctioned away in winter and sping 1946 by H.R. Harmer, Inc., then of New York. The material was provided to public auction in February (Part 1), March (Part 2) and April (Part 3), 1946. Harmer included in the auction catalogue a reproduced letter from President Harry Truman in which Truman wrote of the impact of stamp collecting to bring the world together and its influence on President Roosevelt from early childhood.
This sale is for the three catalogues for the auctions as well as a copy of the Truman letter, and even the original auction bid sheet and reply envelop. The paperback, magazine-style catalogues are in good shape, though the oversized covers do show evidence of handling and reading.
Please study the images for an idea of condition.
Many philatelic reference books are collectible in their own right since many renouned hobby experts are now out of print. Most are valued for their collectibility based on condition, rarity, and to some extent their use as a reference. Condition is the key and is highly subjective, so study the images, read the content, ask questions, and work with a reliable collector-dealer to get what you want.
Please note, payment is expected within three (3) days; thank you. And remember, safe secured shipping is free. This will ship media mail, unless the buyer wishes to pay for a faster postal service.
Every effort is made to generate a stellar experience for buyers and reciprocal feedback is always appreciated. Bookmark the store and check back often for new opportunities.
