The simple variance in color shade can mean a world of difference in the cost of a stamp, especially when it involves the 1851 to 1857 three cent issue -- perforated and imperf alike. The Philatelic Institute Color Chart for that specific issue is a great resource which provides a brief rationale for the guide as well as small rectangular color strips for philatelist's use in comparison to stamps in hand. The chart lists the year of production of the stamp as well as Scott catalogue number in a column to the right of the appropriate colors.
Published in 1991 by the Philatelic Institute of California. The chart is on heavy stock paper and measures (physical dimensions) about 6-by-9-inches.
Many philatelic reference books and charts are collectible in their own right since many renowned hobby experts are now out of print. Most are valued for their collectability based on condition, rarity, and to some extent their use as a reference. Condition is the key and is highly subjective, so study the images, read the content, ask questions, and work with a reliable collector-dealer to get what you want.
Condition: Previously owned, well-kept folded chart without flaws.
Please note, payment is expected within three (3) days; thank you. This will ship media mail, unless the buyer wishes to pay for a faster postal service.
Every effort is made to generate a stellar experience for buyers and reciprocal feedback is always appreciated. Bookmark the store and check back often for new opportunities.
