Item Description
This is the Tacoma, Washington, railroad postal cover mailed to one of the northwestern Washington town of Hamilton's resident in November 1901. FYI, Hamilton is still a tiny town having only around 300 residents as of the 2010 census. This quaint little burg sits near to the Strait entering Puget Sound and a stones throw from Canada (ok, Paul Bunyon's throw). The Northern Pacific Railroad cover was postmarked leaving the South Sound city of Tacoma Nov. 2, 1901 bearing a couple of Scott #279B stamps with a beautiful fancy cancellation -- eight pieces of pie (maybe not) with a reverse design in the outer region of each slice. The supposition that the stamps are Scott #279B is due to the dates of the three issues featuring Triangle C -- #252 March of 1895, #267 May of 1895, and #279B of May 1899.
the cover had preprinted instructions to be returned after 20 days and so it appears it was as indicated by the pair of hands "pointing" to the return address. The reverse bears the November 1901 receiving postmark for Hamilton, while it seems to have been overlapped by the receiving mark from Tacoma on the return on Jan. 10, 1902.
Please review the images of this philatelic Washington cover. Generally, a nice tidy cover with very fresh philatelic qualities. Study the images to determine condition as well as clarity, color, condition, cancel, and centering.
Scott Catalogue Number: #279B (Triangle C)
Color: Carmine
Issue Date: May 1899
Faults/Flaws: The cover has been nicely repaired after suffering a major tear and a stiffening card inserted and sealed within.
