Item Description

This is a classic perforated version of the American imperforate 3-cent stamp (on cover) featuring the portrait of George Washington, which is available for sale now. These early U.S. stamps were printed and perforated with exceptionally narrow margins and this is stamp is clearly tied to the cover with a heavy bold black Boston PAID circle grid cancellation. In addition, the cover bares a nice red Boston CDS.

Based on the reverse pencil notation, this cover was informally identified by the late W. R. "Bill" Weiss in 2012. Weiss was a renouned philatelic expert and later in his life began issuing his own certificates -- easily found within the various philatelic markets.

The stamp is the dull red Type IV after verification with valid colorguides in addition to Weiss' numeric designation. It is an exceptional stamp and a nicely preserved New England Massachusetts to Maine cover.

There is some reverse cover damage, but there are no hidden flaws or other imperfections. Please study the scans and decide for yourself, before bidding.
