DIXIE HOUND KENNELS: 3c Violet (#720), tied by spotty Phoenix NY Jan 22 1934 machine cancel to illustrated advertising cover for the Dixie Hound Kennels, this is the earlier slightly larger version of this cover, printed address of Herrick Illinois, tear by stamp, but in higher condition than usual, enclosed letter states that the customer took dog out and tried him but "he would not notice the gun . . .now what I want is an other dog one that is broken and will come when I whistle," letter and cover datelined Pennellville NY despite being canceled Phoenix, a real nice dog cover, VF.The Kennels of "Dogtown USA," otherwise known as Herrick IL are a fascinating story. Literally tens of thousands of dogs were shipped through this town --some to as far away as Asia. But the vast majority went to the Midwest and Rural South.
