Item Description

This cover measures about 5½ by 3 inches. The stamp is Scott number 213. The Danville, Indiana, postmark date is January 17, 1888, and the obliterator was a carved diamond pattern. A Winchester, Indiana, receiving postmark on the back has a January 18 date.

The envelope was cut open at the right end. It contained one of several letters that Julia and her sister, Susannah, received and saved at Winchester, Indiana. The letters were all removed from the covers many years ago and archived at a research institution for Cox family genealogy research.
