Rizokarpaso (3935)Problem - Damaged items06/23/2020 12:37:43Dear LEFKOSA PULEVI
I received this lot in a damaged KKTC Envelope:
I carefully counted and checked all of the 32 stamps contained in the consignment.
IN THIS LOT:
Damaged - Row #1, stamp #1 KGV 1 Piastre
I felt very disappointed with the quality of your inaccurate description..
REMEDY
Please consider making a goodwill REFUND from the total.
Kind regards,

Re: Problem - Damaged items06/24/2020 04:17:55Dear Andrew,
My apologies and please note that I made a refund of $10.00. I note that you are part of the Cyprus Study Circle and you must take note of the following.
The transport of mail from KKTC stopped on the 12th March 2020 due to the Corona virus. The Post Office reopened fully on the 11th May 2020. However, all the mail leaving KKTC was transported to Adana via Anamur (Coastal Town in Turkey) by BOAT and then travelled by PTT lorries to Istanbul and then flown to London. Therefore, the envelope must have been damaged during this travel, I guess, probably on the boat when handled by untrained staff. I hope you did not dispose of the envelope.
On another matter, I have in my private collection, a full sheet of SG2, Plate 215. I am also nearing the completion of reconstruction of SG2 - Plate 215. Mostly used stamps, which I intend to exhibit in the near future with other items.
Again, I apologise for the inconvenience caused.
Regards,
Aziz -
Re: Problem - Damaged items06/24/2020 06:59:35Dear Aziz,
My thanks for your very generous and acceptable response to my message of yesterday.
The original damaged envelope had been enclosed in a clear plastic KKTT Protective cover, and I could see that there was damage, before opening the plastic cover.
The corner of the envelope had been torn or chewed off (may be rodent damage?) and it was clear that the damage had occurred long before it reached this country, probably while it was still in the hands of the KKTT Authorities.
I do not believe that the stamps were damaged in transit. They were clearly damaged during the early handling process, prior to being advertised for sale. This is why I suggested that the description (good condition) was a little inaccurate.
The stamps were displayed for sale (on the internet site) as several individual items and some were also on two black display cards.
However, the display cards were missing from the consignment. It was for this reason that I carefully counted every item enclosed, and it was from this process, that I discovered one stamp was not there. It was a simple matter to identify which item was missing.
I believe that efforts had been made to reduce the total weight of the consignment, prior to posting. I think this is possibly where one stamp became "lost".
The "damage" referred to in my previous message, was evident from the general condition of many items you sent me. The damage ("pin holes", "thins" and "soiling") was consistent with some stamps having been carelessly extracted from a collection.
I have found that in the majority of cases, stamps were not of the quality that one would expect, when judged from online descriptions that were given.
Many of your items were of genuine interest, and I found this very pleasing.
However, if one looks carefully at many of your online items, it becomes clear that great care must be exercised when searching for items of a "Specialist" nature, as some descriptions are quite inaccurate.
Please forgive my long-winded explanation of my findings, but I feel that it is helpful for the person who is doing the "selling" to have a good understanding of a collector's expectations, compared with the "reality" of the items being sold.
Please accept my sincere and genuine thanks for some of the interesting Cyprus stamps you sent me.
With kindest regards,
Andrew Galfskiy
