Item Description

This Airport Dedication cover was mailed from Corsicana, Texas to Orange, California in 1929 franked by a 5-cent blue & carmine Beacon on Rocky Mountains Air Mail issue of 1928, Scott C11. The stamp is tied to the envelope by a machine cancellation.

The envelope is signed at left by 'P. (Pierce) Mayer' with a label applied to the right that depicts two airplanes and reads:

'Commemorating the Opening of
Corsicana, Texas Municipal Airport
April 27, 1929,' that is signed by 'R. L. (Robert Lloyd) Wheelock, Mayor.'

The cover's arrival marking is a Station-1 duplex with a barred elliptical killer struck on a separate sheet of paper as an insert.

Slit open top, the backflap is sealed and intact. No contents.
