Item Description

The Local Post Collectors Society observes the last Monday in January each year as World Local Post Day and encourages all members and Local Post Postmasters to issue a stamp in observance of the event on that date.

Always one to comply with orders from higher up, Bufflehead Local Post Postmaster Dave Bennett issued a stamp commemorating World Local Post Day and had it cancelled in Hollywood, CA on January 30, 2006.  The BLP was cancelled the same day in Van Nuys, CA.

It is franked with the "Where the Wild Things Are" single from the pane of 8 Children's Book Animals issued just 2 1/2 weeks before the date on this cover.  It also bears a single of the 9th issue of the Bufflehead Local Post, an 11¢ single honoring the 11th anniversary of its founding, and it shows a Bufflehead Duck pushing a giant mail sack decorated with a world globe motif!

The Bufflehead Local Post, so named for the flocks of Bufflehead Ducks outside the studio where the local post first operated as a service to Bennett's coworkers, is rumored to still be in occasional service.
