Item Description

Excellent example, with full date BRUNEI 19 AUG 1895 cds.  Scott #A7, catalog value $50.00 in Scott Classic Specialized.   Stanley Gibbons #7, catalog value €35.00. in 2010.

The 1895 Star and Crescent issue is often considered a local, as it was not valid for postage outside of Brunei.  Long recognized by Stanley Gibbons, Scott now lists it in its "Classic" catalog.  A 1973 booklet by famous philatelist Robson Lowe (3rd photo) states that "erroneously, these stamps have been called "locals", but the Star & Crescent stamps are the first general issue of the Brunei Post Office"
